”The Social Role(s) of Translators in a Totalitarian System: The Case of Mykola Lukash (Ukraine)”

Dr. Savchyn is Associate Professor at the Department of Translation Studies and Contrastive Linguistics, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Holding a Visby Programme scholarship from the Swedish Institute she is a guest researcher at SlaBaFinNeTy for the period 1 September 2019–29 February 2020. Her research interests are within translation history and lexicography with a focus on the Soviet period.  In her lecture, she will present her current research project which involves the case of Mykola Lukash (1919–1988), eminent translator of many works of world literature into Ukrainian.

Dr. Savchyn is the author of the monograph Mykola Lukash — podvyzhnyk ukraїins'koho khudozhn'oho perekladu (Lviv: Litopys, 2014) and numerous articles on translation in the Ukrainian context.
