Dmitrij Dobrovol’skij is a linguist and lexicographer. He is Senior Researcher at the Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow) and professor at the Moscow State University (German department). His main field of research is lexical semantics in Russian and German with the focus on figurative language and idioms in particular. His publications include monographs such as Phraseologie als Objekt der Universalienlinguistik (1998), Kognitive Aspekte der Idiom-Semantik (1995), Idiome im mentalen Lexikon (1997), Symbole in Sprache und Kultur (1997 – with Elisabeth Piirainen), Figurative language: cross-cultural and cross-linguistic perspective (in print – with Elisabeth Piirainen), numerious papers published in Russian, German, English, Spanish and French, as well as some dictionaries mostly compiled in co-authorship with other colleagues, such as Idiome der lebendigen Sprache: Deutsch-russisches Wörterbuch (1997), Deutsch-russisches Wörterbuch der Alltagskommunikation (1998, 2003), English-Russian dictionary of linguistics and semiotics (1996, 2001, 2002). He is a member of the editorial board of the “International Journal of Lexicography”. At present he is a participant in the Austrian Academy Corpus project at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
